Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:
- On Tuesday, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly announced he is filling five key roles in his administration. In his announcement, Mayor Kelly stated he will promote currently serving staff who have demonstrated the ability to drive critical agenda items from the One Chattanooga strategy. Karitsa Mosley Jones, Chris Anderson, Tim Moreland, Dylan Rivera, and Kimberly Strong were all named in the announcement. The appointments of Mosley Jones and Moreland are subject to City Council confirmation. (Chattanooga Pulse)
- In his first speech since taking office, Superintendent Dr. Justin Robertson placed a top priority on the "facilities crisis" within the district during the Hamilton County Schools "State of the System" address. According to Dr. Robertson, 51 percent of school buildings were rated fair--unsatisfactory. Tyner Academy, in particular, has been a focus for repair in recent months after a report found crumbling conditions. Students took action conducting a school walkout and going to the board demanding a new building. (WTVC)
- Hamilton County is working to address the concerns of ambulance coverage in the northern part of the county, according to Mayor Jim Coppinger. Commissioner Sabrena Smedley, who is running for Hamilton County Mayor on the GOP primary ticket, has made the shortage a part of her campaign and raised these concerns at Wednesday morning's meeting of the Hamilton County Commission. Mayor Coppinger says the county is working on another EMS building on Snowy Owl Road in Ooltewah, and looking to hire more staff to fill vacant positions. (foxchattanooga.com)
