🌱 Chattanoogans Help In AL Cave Rescue + HCS EdConnect Heroes
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Chattanooga.
Hello again, Chattanooga! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Chattanooga Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Chattanooga Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Chattanooga long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.
First, today's weather:
A shower in the p.m.; breezy. High: 66 Low: 55.
Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:
- Members of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue traveled out to Fackler, Alabama, this weekend to help the Huntsville Cave Rescue and Jackson County Cave Rescue save an injured woman from a cave. On Saturday, Feb. 19, 21-year-old Cara Moore suffered from a lower extremity injury approximately one mile into Tumbling Rock Cave, according to authorities. After the team of 33 rescuers extracted Moore from the cave, she was assessed by EMS and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. (WTVC)
- Educators and school staff have worked incredibly hard throughout the pandemic, and Hamilton County Schools wanted to recognize local schools and faculty members for those tireless efforts. On Saturday, the HCS EdConnect Partnership announced that six district staff members and seven schools had received HCS EdConnect Heroes Awards for their work during the first semester of the 2021-2022 school term. The awards recognized each winner for "the time, energy, and passion they devoted to ensuring students and families had access to the resources they needed to succeed." Learn more about the awards and the HCS EdConnect Partnership on the school district's website. (Hamilton County Schools)
- COVID restrictions are easing and case numbers are down across Tennessee, and Chattanoogans couldn't be happier for the return to normal life. "We got our mask mandate removed from school so I get to see more people's faces now," one student at Southern Adventist University, just outside Chattanooga, told WTVC. Tennessee State infectious disease expert Dr. Wendelyn Inman says moving forward, "it's all about monitoring variants," and until numbers start going back up, she "isn't worried." (WTVC)
