The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Chattanooga.
Good morning, people of Chattanooga! It's me again, Kayla Harrison, your host of the Chattanooga Daily.
First, today's weather:
Cooler with clouds and sun. High: 56 Low: 28.
Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:
- The Hamilton County Health Department has announced that it will close its COVID-19 vaccination site in Riverpark and relocate to downtown Chattanooga beginning Feb. 15. As of Tuesday, vaccinations will now be available to the public at 921 E. 3rd Street. According to the Health Department, the new campus will provide staff with shelter from weather and consolidate all vaccine administration into one building. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- Chattanooga State Community College student Zennia Nesmith has been named as one of eight nationwide 2022 DREAM Scholar winners, and the first DREAM Scholar from CSCC. According to a press release, this program is an "experiential learning opportunity" for community college students designed to "enhance leadership, critical thinking, and networking skills." Nesmith, a wife and mother who is on track to graduate this spring, completed her GED and enrolled at Chattanooga State more than two decades after she dropped out of high school. Dr. Rebecca Ashford, Chattanooga State president, said Nesmith's selection "makes the entire campus community proud." (Press Release Desk)
- Last night, the Chattanooga Rescue Mission held a Valentine's Day Banquet for those in the community who are experiencing homelessness. The mission handed out plates of food with hearts at its Holtzclaw Avenue location, accompanied by music to entertain attendees. According to Champlin Donald Baer, the event is "all about spreading love and kindness to those less fortunate." (WTVC)
