Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:

  1. Chattanooga Police have released a statement stating the bond system can put the public in danger due to low bond fees. Authorities cited the recent case of the murder of Ladarius Howard on News Year's Day. A suspect, Zachary Smith, was captured in Alabama with the help of several different agencies on Jan. 27. A judge set Smith's bond at $700,000 and because local bond companies set the bond fee at a low percentage, Smith is now free, awaiting his trial. (WDEF News 12)
  2. According to Chattanooga State Community College, adults represent more than 32 percent of Chattanooga State Students. The Tennessee Reconnect Grant at Chattanooga State can help students finish debt-free. Chattanooga State offers hybrid and online options, and Reconnect allows up to five years to complete a degree, diploma, or credential. (Press Release Desk)
  3. In collaboration with the City of Dayton, Chattanooga State Community College recently dedicated a room in memory of Pam Shaver, a 20-plus year employee of Chattanooga State who passed away in July of 2021. In an emotional tribute, colleagues, family, friends, and students gathered to witness Pam's husband Greg Shaver, son Chad Shaver and daughter Emily (Shaver) Hooper unveil the plaque dedicating the PS Testing Room to her.
