Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:
- Former Chattanooga Police Chief Freeman Cooper has passed away. On Jan. 11, 2007, Cooper was sworn in as Chattanooga's 26th Chief of Police, succeeding Steve Parks. Chief Freeman Cooper was one of 13 applicants for the position after a nationwide search by the Mayor's office. Cooper was best known for providing a renewed focus to addressing juvenile and gang-related crimes. (WTVC)
- A man rescued another person from crash wreckage in Chattanooga Wednesday night and soon found out the person was his relative. The man, who wished to be unidentified, went to investigate a crash that happened outside of Ballard Drive. A video shows a car had flipped over into a ditch outside of a home. After the person was pulled from the wreckage, the victim recognized his rescuer as someone he was related to but had never met before. (WTVC)
- An event to celebrate the 24 veterans who live at Hickory Valley Retirement will be held on Apr. 23. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at the center and the public is invited to come out and celebrate the veterans. There will be a Jeep Caravan parade as well as meals of Mission BBQ.
