- For over 20 years, taxpayers across the country have had to foot the bill to clean up industrial contamination, including here in Chattanooga. In 2019, the EPA discovered dangerous levels of lead in the soil of hundreds of Chattanooga properties. Now, a new effort in Congress may force the industry to pay for its own pollution. - According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, a man is facing several charges after attempting to evade police, injuring another driver, and crashing into a barbecue restaurant. On Wednesday, Feb. 9, 21-year-old Andre Blocker was allegedly pulled over by an officer after driving recklessly. According to the HCSO, the suspect gave a false name, failed to provide an ID, reached for a firearm, and drove off at a high rate of speed. Blocker struck another vehicle and crashed near a local barbecue restaurant. (WTVC)
- A Chattanooga developer has withdrawn its request to build apartments off Mountain Creek Road amid backlash from the local community. Allen Jones of ASA Engineering formally withdrew the proposal for its planned 220-plus unit complex at Tuesday's City Council meeting. According to Jones, the company "wishes to communicate more with neighbors" about the best plan for the tract of land, as well as conduct a land-use study through the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency.
