Hamilton County Schools And Unum Extend Their Partnership

Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Hamilton County Schools (HCS) receives extension funding from Unum for the 2021-22 school year.

Unum, a Chattanooga-based provider of workplace benefits and services, will provide $100,000 to HCS for Future Ready Institute (FRI) teachers’ professional development and externship opportunities. This support provides FRI teachers with opportunities to identify new ways to teach core subjects through the focus of their institute.

“Hamilton County Schools has created a model that accelerates student achievement by infusing technology and real-world experience into the learning process,” said Dr. Towns, Hamilton County Schools Interim Superintendent. “We believe in a culture of continuous instructional improvement to ensure all children thrive.”

The program includes a weeklong training at local Unum offices including project-based learning instruction, practical job site experience, and instruction planning. FRI teachers benefit from this continued training through learning best practices and idea-sharing for continued student growth.

“One of Unum’s core values is a caring spirit and we were honored to provide the initial investment to help launch the Institutes in Hamilton County a few years ago,” said Steve Zabel, Chief Financial Officer at Unum. “It’s part of our culture to help our communities. These educational programs help us grow equitable opportunities for student success.”

Unum will continue to support the FRI through the 2021-22 school year with the possibility to extend another two years.
