HCSO On 'COPS' + Jury Selection + COVID-19 Deaths Increasing

Here are the top stories in Chattanooga today:

  1. Season 33 of "COPS" will feature Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in episodes airing in mid-November. This is the second time in four years that HCSO has been in the TV series. Sheriff states they can use this opportunity as a way to "recruit the best and brightest of our ranks." (Free: WRCB-TV, Subscription: Chattanooga Times Free Press)
  2. The jury selection began Thursday in the trial of Janet Hinds, who was accused of killing Chattanooga officer, Nicholas Galinger. There are 62 potential jurors remaining but only 16 will be selected for the trial. Hinds faces a total of 10 charges, though she has pleaded not guilty. (WTVC)
  3. The Hamilton County Health Department notes that more people under 50 are now dying from COVID-19, and they encourage anyone who is eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine. (WTVC)
  4. The Ed Johnson Memorial is set to be unveiled this weekend on Walnut Street Bridge, followed by a walk across the bridge and a celebration at Coolidge Park. (WRCB-TV)
  5. The Hunter Museum of American Art is opening two special exhibitions on Sept. 24 that feature visually appealing and culturally distinct artworks. (The Chattanoogan)
