Here are the top three stories today in Chattanooga:
- A new report issued by the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition shows that the number of people living without a permanent address has gone up significantly in the region. The report is based on the annual "point-in-time" count that is conducted at regional homeless shelters. The data is reported to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. - The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a commercial fire at the Hamilton Place Mall on Friday morning. The fire was contained in the Red Robin Restaurant, which has suffered significant fire, water, and smoke damage. The fire reportedly started from a grill in the burger restaurant. (The Chattanoogan)
- The Hamilton County School Board has approved the charter school application for a new bilingual immersion school. The approval was given during a Thursday board meeting. The Chatt Academy Community School will service 6th- through 12th-grade students, who will have the opportunity to learn both English and Spanish. (WTVC)
