Here are the top stories today in Chattanooga and the surrounding area:
- On Saturday, Janet Hinds was found guilty on eight counts and will be sentenced to jail on Nov. 1. The woman was charged with the hit and run of Chattanooga police officer Nicholas Gallinger which led to his untimely death in February 2019. Hinds was found guilty of vehicular homicide by intoxication, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, failing to report an accident, speeding, failure of due care, failure to maintain a lane, and driving under the influence. She will be placed under house arrest until her sentencing. (WDEF News 12)
- A man who was shot on Campbell Street on Saturday has succumbed to his injuries. Chattanooga officers have identified the victim as 21-year-old Jailen Wofford. The suspected shooter fled the area prior to police arrival; there are no suspect details to release at this time. The Chattanooga Police Department is asking anyone with information on the case to call the Homicide Tip Line or submit a tip via the CPD mobile app. (WTVC)
- The Chattanooga Clergy for Justice filed a formal complaint with the Department of Justice regarding their use of force policy. (WDEF News 12)
- The Chattanooga Police Department confirms several people were shot on Grove St. on Saturday night, with many facing life-threatening injuries. (WTVC)
- Two people have been arrested in connection to a fatal apartment shooting in Fort Oglethorpe. (WDEF News 12)
