Here are the top 3 stories in Chattanooga today:

  1. The Association for Visual Arts gallery is welcoming a new exhibit, "Generation Next: Teaching The Future." The exhibit features a collection of work completed by Professor Mike Holsomback, as well as current and former students at Chattanooga State. A public reception will take place on Jan. 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and is open to the public. (Chattanooga Pulse)
  2. A Chattanooga man has been charged with the deadly shooting of his brother on New Year's Eve. Jarvis Suggs spoke with police about blacking out in anger; according to an affidavit, he did not recall shooting his brother but admitted he was likely at fault. Police believe Suggs was not in danger at the time of the shooting. (Fox Chattanooga)
  3. Blood donations are critically needed in Chattanooga. According to Christopher Swafford, the COO of Blood Assurance, teleworking has negatively impacted the number of people they are able to reach for donations. There is currently a shortage of Type O blood, and there is a high demand for platelet donations. (News Channel 9)

  • Educator, author, and public speaker Dr. Angela Davis will be the keynote speaker for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga MLK Day 2023 celebration. It will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 12:30 p.m. at the UTC Fine Arts Center's Roland Hayes Concert Hall; registration is open to the public and available here. (Chattanooga Pulse)
  • Ice on the Landing is open to all ages from Tuesday through Sunday until Jan. 28. Tickets for 60-minute skate sessions can be reserved online, and there are private group rentals available, as well. (Ice on the Landing)
  • East Ridge Animal Services will change its business hours starting on Feb. 1. The East Ridge Animal Shelter will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as the first and third Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (The Chattanoogan)
