Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:
- Deputies with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office are investigating an officer-involved shooting at a cemetery. Police report the situation started around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the NATL Cemetery, at which time a man walked into the office with a knife and threatened officers. Officers then fired their guns at the man, who was later rushed to Erlanger in critical condition. (WSMV 4)
- Saturday, Apr. 23 marks the annual Strolling on the River 5k, presented by local nonprofit Love's Arm. The event, which takes place at the Tennessee Riverpark Pavilion #1 at 10:00 a.m., is designed to raise awareness of trafficking in and around Chattanooga. All proceeds will benefit Love's Arm and its mission to "engage, empower, and transition women survivors of trafficking, prostitution, and addiction toward a Christ-centered community of grace." (Chattanooga Pulse)
- In 2011, Herbert Strickland died while protecting another customer during a store shooting. Nearly 11 years later, a man is now being charged in Chattanooga in connection with Strickland's death. Police arrested Antonio Espey on Wednesday; he had previously been indicted in September 2011, but the charges were dropped "due to witness issues." (WTVC)
