Here are the top stories today in Chattanooga:

  1. The Chattanooga City Council unanimously approved the new city budget on Tuesday night with a property tax increase of 40 cents. The money will primarily be used to increase the minimum pay for city workers, including public works drivers, fire, and police, to $15 per hour. Some of the budget will also go toward fulfilling Mayor Kelly's campaign promise of increasing the paving budget and hiring a pothole inspector. (WDEF News 12)
  2. A 33-year-old man was shot late Tuesday night at a gas station on the 2400 block of 4th Avenue. The victim, De'aunte Duncan, was declared dead by arriving officers. Police are accepting anonymous tips via the CPD Mobile App or the Chattanooga Homicide Tip Line (423-643-5100). (WTVC)
  3. Three individuals were sent to the hospital after a box truck went off the roadway near the base of Walden's Ridge/Signal Mountain. Roberts Mill Road was closed for several hours on Wednesday as the truck was retrieved. (WTVC)
  4. The Southeast Adaptive Mountain Bike Tour, the largest adaptive mountain bike tour of its kind, is coming to Chattanooga this Saturday and Sunday. (The Chattanoogan)
