Here are the top three stories in Chattanooga today:

  1. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has teamed up with Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful to establish a network of Seabin automated litter and debris removal devices across the Tennessee River. A demonstration of the Seabin device was made in Chattanooga on the morning of Mar. 22. The announcement coincided with World Water Day and the event was sponsored by representatives from TDOT, Keep America Beautiful, the City of Chattanooga, and the Tennessee Aquarium. 2. Are you looking for a new home in the Chattanooga area? Each week, Patch compiles a list of the latest homes to hit the market to help you narrow your search. In this week's roundup, you will find 5 properties for sale, including a 1,921 square foot, 3 bed/2.5 bath home listed for $289,000. (Chattanooga Patch)
  3. Chattanooga has the seventh most minority-owned businesses in the U.S. according to a report from Smartest Dollar, a finance website. Local business owners point to Chattanooga's non-profit support systems as a major reason why Chattanooga is a great place to work, while others state the city's welcoming culture is the reason. Today in Chattanooga:

  • Student Intake - Washington Alternative Learning Center (10:00 AM)
  • Wildflower Hike with Mary Priestley - City of Chattanooga (1:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • The Chattanooga Fire Department recently held its annual trench rescue training for all squad members. A "T" trench was used for the training, showing participants how to capture corners for stability to make the trench safe for personnel to enter and conduct rescue operations. All five squads on all three shifts took part in this training. (Facebook)
  • Paddington, a dog available for adoption at the Tennessee Humane Animal League's Pet Placement Center, had the best day yesterday spent with our wonderful dog volunteers, Rebecca Shearer and Jeannie! Paddington loved his time away from the shelter and was such a good boy. (Facebook)
  • Today is Penguin Pool Drop Day! Twice a year, our Gentoo and Macaroni Penguins are taken off-exhibit for their regular physical exams with the Aquarium's veterinarian. While they're getting their checkups, animal care specialists use the opportunity to give Penguins' Rock a thorough cleaning. (Facebook)
