Here are the top stories in Chattanooga today:
- Chattanooga senior living apartments were evacuated early Tuesday morning due to fear of fire. Residents smelled smoke and alerted police, who found that a heating and air unit on the roof was smoking because of electrical issues. There are no reported injuries, and residents were allowed back inside about two hours later. (WDEF News 12)
- A theft suspect crashed into a utility pole, cutting off the power in a Red Bank neighborhood. The suspect stole items from Gas Station 76 and then crashed into the pole around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say the suspect fled the scene on foot, but the identity of the suspect is still unknown. (WRCB-TV)
- Chattanooga's City Council proposes to change curfew guidelines for kids under 17 due to crime in the area, with a recommendation of an 11 p.m. curfew. (WTVC)
- Chattanooga native Kane Brown being named to the "Time 100" list was not surprising to those who know him and his "unquantifiable 'it' factor." (Free: Yahoo! News, Subscription: Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- Chattanooga Park Stewards will host an environmental stewardship event to honor Public Lands Day on Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Stinger's Ridge, Spears Avenue trailhead. (The Chattanoogan)
