Welcome back, Chattanooga! It's Saturday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in Chattanooga.
First, today's weather:
Cold with plenty of sunshine. High: 38 Low: 25.
Here are the top 3 stories today in Chattanooga:
- A Tennessee school board's removal of the Holocaust book 'Maus' drew international attention, including the author Art Spiegelman. The McMinn County School Board voted to ban the book due to "rough language and a nude drawing of a woman," and claimed it was not an appropriate way to teach the students about the Holocaust. After hearing the news of the board's removal on Twitter, Michael Dzik, the director of the Jewish Federation in Chattanooga, said he felt the School Board had "made a terrible mistake," and that "taking educational opportunities off the curriculum is a problem." (The Tennessean)
- Numerous vehicle break-ins at Chattanooga fire stations, including firefighters' personal vehicles, are being investigated. Officials asked the public to help protect the fire halls and firefighters' property. If anyone has information about these cases, call CPD at 423-698-2525 or submit an anonymous tip on the CPD mobile app. (The Chattanoogan)
- The Hamilton County Health Department denied publishing patient names after false health information has been circulating online. The Department operates under HIPAA regulations, which includes confidentiality and privacy of patient information. They encourage the public to contact them at 423-209-8383 if they have any concerns or questions about the information they hear. (WDEF)
