12-Year-Old Shot in Leg by 2-Year-Old in Donelson

The 12-year-old has "moderate injuries" after being shot, police say.

DONELSON, TN — A 12-year-old, reportedly carrying an infant was accidentally shot in the leg by a two-year-old Sunday morning in Donelson.

Officers responded just before 9:30 Sunday morning to a home on Blue Hills Drive in the Merry Hills neighborhood, just south of Lebanon Pike.

According to police, a woman had just driven to the home and parked in the driveway, her car door still open.

The 2-year-old walked to the car, reached into the compartment on the door, pulling out a loaded 9 mm Smith & Wesson revolver.

The toddler pulled the trigger, hitting the 12-year-old who had walked out to the car. The 12-year-old was allegedly holding an infant at the time of the shooting.

Police say the bullet entered the 12-year-old’s leg and exited through his groin. He was taken the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Youth Services detectives are taking over the investigation to determine if charges will be filed against the gun owner.
