14-Year-Old, Man Charged With Murder After East Nashville Gunfight
A teenager and a 20-year-old are accused of killing another man in a shootout at James Cayce Homes Friday.

EAST NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police charged a 14-year-old and plan to charge a 20-year-old in the shooting death of a man during a gunfight at James Cayce Homes Friday afternoon.
Police say Montel Sowell, 20, and Mario Woodard, 14, exchanged gunfire with 26-year-old Travis Rosemond around 1:15 p.m. Friday, investigators said. Police found Rosemond in the front passenger seat of a Buick Century with a .38 caliber handgun in the floorboard. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

Sowell tried to flee on foot, but collapsed with a gunshot wound in the abdomen. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and will be charged with homicide when he is released, according to MNPD. Woodard ran into the back door of a nearby apartment but was arrested and charged with homicide in juvenile court. Police continue to search for another young man who was seen on surveillance taking a gun tossed by Sowell.
A motive has not yet been determined.
