Foxx, 32, was in the front passenger seat of his girlfriend's Toyota Camry. As the woman, 20-year-old Kassandra Jones, tried to merge into traffic on Shelby Avenue, the couple and a pair in a white Mercedes began to argue, a witness told police.

The passenger in the Mercedes, believed to be Owens, then shot into the Camry, striking Foxx. Jones pulled over at Second Avenue and Russell Street and made contact with police. Foxx was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and pronounced dead.
