40 Families Displaced by Three-Alarm Donelson Apartment Complex Fire

Raging Sunday morning fire sweeps through Donelson apartments, leaving 40 families homeless and injuring two firefighters.

DONELSON, TN — A early morning, three-alarm apartment fire in Donelson has 40 families looking for a place to live.

Nashville Fire Department crews were dispatched to the The Cedars at Elm Hill apartments at 1:54 Sunday morning. As the trucks approached the complex, they were able to see flames shooting 30 feet above the roof line of Building L from Briley Parkway. Upon arrival, firefighters were able to evacuate Building L and neighboring Building K.

As the prosecution of the fire began, the intense flames jumped from Building L to a tree and then to Building K. It took an hour of firefighting to control the blaze.

Two firefighters received non-life-threatening injuries. One received a laceration to his head and was treated and released at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Another was taken to Vanderbilt with a back injury.

Forty units will be at least temporarily unlivable due to smoke, fire and water damage. The American Red Cross is assisting residents with temporary housing.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.
