Car Thieves Sought By Dam Site

Three suspected auto thieves were captured but two eluded police overnight in a search near Old Hickory Dam.

OLD HICKORY, TN — Two car theft suspects were able to elude police and bamboozle K-9 officers after a search near Old Hickory Dam early Wednesday morning.

Around midnight, patrol officers spotted a car and saw five people flee when they saw police. Police say the license plate on the car indicated the vehicle had been stolen. Two of the five were apprehended by police once officers established a perimeter and a third was found by the K-9.

However, an ensuing five-hour search, aided by the dogs and by helicopters, did not turn up the other two people. The search was called off around 5 a.m.
