Cats Killed In East Nashville Fire

Nashville Fire investigators believe a significant house fire that killed seven cats in East Nashville was caused by bad wiring.

EAST NASHVILLE, TN — Faulty wiring caused a house fire in East Nashville that killed seven cats, fire officials said.

A housesitter called 911 to the home on North 17th Street and Forrest Avenue around 2 a.m. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, but it rekindled around 4:30 a.m and was ultimately extinguished around 5:15 a.m. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Middle Tennessee Patch morning newsletter.)

The second round of flames caused significant damage to the home, as well as some music collectibles and a 1964 Corvette in the garage. In addition, seven cats which were inside were killed.

The fire also spread down electrical lines, hitting a utility box which knocked out cable service in the area, and jumped the street to set a tree alight.
