East Nashville Joyriders Arrested After Police Chase Locks Down Elementary School

Pennington Elementary went into "lockout" during a police search for three juvenile joyriders.

NASHVILLE, TN — Three juvenile joyriders were arrested Thursday afternoon after a brief police chase which led to the lock-out of a nearby elementary school..

Metro Police initially tried to stop a white Nissan for a traffic violation on McGavock Pike, but the driver sped away, leading to a brief police chase. The occupants of the car bailed out and fled into some woods on Ridgeland Drive. Nearby Pennington Elementary School initiated the "lockout" protocol, during which classes continue normally but no one is permitted into the school.

The three juveniles were found hiding in a shed with the assistance of K-9 officers and a helicopter.

The trio will be charged with auto theft, according to police.
