Madison Kidnapping Suspect Arrested
Metro Police arrested a man accused of holding a woman and a 5-year-old at gunpoint in Madison early Thursday.

MADISON, TN — A man accused of holding a woman and a five-year-old at gunpoint is behind bars after Metro Police were able to convince him to give himself up early Thursday morning.
Investigators say Granvil Johnson, 33, met the mother and child at the Madison Kroger shortly after midnight Thursday then forced them into his car at gunpoint, demanding the woman's cell phone and going through it. He then drove around the area until the woman convinced him to take them back to the grocery store, from where she called police.

Metro Police say they were able to make contact with Johnson but he sped away and led police on a chase, which was called off for safety reasons. Eventually, police say, Johnson crashed his car on Webster Street and fled on foot.
He was tracked to his apartment and gave himself up around 3 a.m. Johnson is charged with kidnapping, evading arrest and aggravated assault.
