Driver in Early Morning Ellington Parkway Wreck Died from a Gunshot

The driver of the pickup did not die from the injuries in the single-vehicle accident.

EAST NASHVILLE, TN — The driver in what appeared to be a fatal car accident on Ellington Parkway Wednesday morning in fact died of a gunshot wound.

Ryan Trent drove his white Chevrolet Silverado off the road while traveling northbound near the Briarville Road intersection around 3 a.m.. The truck hit a tree and Trent was dead when first responders arrived on the scene. While initially the cause of death was believed to be trauma from the wreck, the medical examiner found a gunshot wound and determined that Trent instead died from a shooting.

Police are now looking for anyone who know of Trent whereabouts ahead of the 3 a.m. crash or anyone driving on Ellington at the time of the accident.
