Man Jumps Into Stones River to Evade Police
A rescue effort on the Stones River shifted to recovery after a man jumped in to avoid talking to police.

DONELSON, TN — The Metro Office of Emergency Management took to the Stones River Friday morning, using divers and boats specially fitted with sonar to search for a man who leaped into the water late Thursday in an apparent effort to avoid speaking to the police.
Metro Police officers were patrolling Heartland Park around 10:30 Thursday night when they spotted a car with three people inside. The park closes at dusk and increased complaints about after-dark activities there have led to increased scrutiny from police.
As officers were talking to the as-yet-identified man — he was in the car with another man and a woman — he changed his story and then bolted towards the river, jumping into the icy water. Police saw the man go under the surface and called in Nashville Fire Department rescue teams, but they were unable to find the man.
