Metro Police Headquarters Temporarily Relocating to Lebanon Pike

MNPD will operate out of temporary office space while new headquarters on Murfreesboro Pike is built.

NASHVILLE, TN — This weekend, the Metro Nashville Police Department will transition its headquarters to temporary space on Lebanon Pike.

The existing Metropolitan Justice Center at 200 James Robertson Parkway will be torn down and rebuilt as a new jail. A new police headquarters building will be built on Murfreesboro Pike on property that was once home to the Carl Black Chevrolet dealership. In the meantime, police headquarters will be in a Donelson office park at 3055 Lebanon Pike.

Former Mayor Karl Dean proposed moving the headquarters to a site on Jefferson Street in the waning months of his tenure, but faced with stiff community opposition, the Metro Council rejected the funding needed to make it a reality. The Murfreesboro Pike site was met with no such opposition — and was even greeted with enthusiastic support, particularly from area business owners. The new headquarters will be adjacent to the $20 million Family Justice Center, which broke ground a year ago. The FJC will include Metro police's domestic violence, youth services and sex crime units, along with a Tennessee Department of Children's Services office and space for nonprofits.
