Nashville Murder Suspect Found In Closet

A man wanted for the murder of his girlfriend's nephew in East Nashville Saturday was arrested in his closet Monday.

NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police arrested the suspect in a Saturday murder in East Nashville Monday morning. Police said that 46-year-old James Dunlap was hiding in his closet when they arrived at his Shepard Street home in Chestnut Hill.

Investigators say Dunlap shot and killed 21-year-old Robert Westmoreland IV, the nephew of Dunlap's girlfriend, early Saturday outside the Edgefield Apartments.

When Westmoreland and his aunt arrived at the apartment, Dunlap began arguing with them. The fight escalated and Dunlap and Westmoreland went outside. Witnesses told police they saw Westmoreland shove Dunlap and then Dunlap shot him with a revolver.

Dunlap was convicted of second-murder murder in 1988 and fled the scene Saturday before police arrived. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
