Nashville Officer Shoots, Kills Armed Man: Police
Metro Police say an officer shot and killed an armed man at Cayce Homes shortly before 1 p.m. Friday

EAST NASHVILLE, TN — Metro Police say an officer shot and killed an armed man at East Nashville's Cayce Homes public housing project shortly before 1 p.m. Friday.
Metro Police say East Precinct officer Josh Lippert, a five-year veteran of the force, shot Jocques Scott Clemmons, 31, after a traffic stop and struggle, after which Clemmons fled on foot.
"After a short foot pursuit, another struggle ensued. During that struggle the suspect encountered a firearm. Over a struggle with the firearm the officer discharged his weapon at the suspect to responded to that threat," Capt. Mike Hagar said.

Clemmons was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died late Friday afternoon.
The weapon Clemmons "encountered" was a .347 magnum. It is not yet known how many times he was shot.

Metro Police say Clemmons is on probation for a 2014 cocaine possession charge. Lippert, as per standard procedure, is on administrative duty pending an investigation.
