ā¢ Five miles of AT reopen after Helene damage - (smokymountainnews.com) ā Hikers and residents should know a 3.6āmile detour is still required to cross the Nolichucky River in Erwin while a new bridge replaces the Chestoa Bridge lost in Hurricane Helene. Meanwhile, a heavily damaged 5.5āmile stretch of the Appalachian Trail at Iron Mountain Gap has reopened, though crews are still repairing tread and clearing overgrowth in nearby sections.
