1. Citizens file ouster petition against Attorney General (standardbanner.com) — Residents concerned about justice after the 2016 Gatlinburg wildfires are watching a new ouster petition seeking to remove Fourth District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn from office. The petition follows grand jury charges against Dunn and claims by Sevier County resident Erik Cooper that he was blocked from presenting wildfire-related information to a grand jury. A senior judge has been appointed to hear Dunn’s criminal case.
   

2. Gray steps down as Gatlinburg fire chief (themountainpress.com) — Gatlinburg is suddenly without a permanent fire chief after David Gray resigned effective immediately just nine months into the job, though he’s pledged to help with the transition. Longtime Assistant Chief Wayne Brandenburg, a 43-year department veteran, is now serving as interim chief while the city searches for Gray’s replacement, a change that could affect how local fire and emergency services are led.
   

3. Arrests Sept. 22-23 (themountainpress.com) — Sevier County’s latest jail intake report includes a Gatlinburg resident, Paz Santos-Miguel, 54, who was arrested Sept. 22 on an immigration detainer and is being held. The list also details numerous other arrests from surrounding communities on charges ranging from probation violations and weapons offenses to aggravated assault and public intoxication, giving residents a snapshot of recent law enforcement activity.

This Tennessee Mountain Village Preserves Nearly 18 Old Cabins You Can Step Inside (takingthekids.com) — Just a short drive from Gatlinburg, you can wander through 18 restored historic cabins and the Appalachian Clubhouse in Elkmont, a former logging and resort community inside Great Smoky Mountains National Park. With detailed signs, nearby campground access, hiking trails, and even synchronous fireflies in late spring, the area offers Gatlinburg residents an easy day trip or weekend escape packed with history and scenery.
