Jailed Rutherford County Sheriff Suspended, Loses Paycheck

A Nashville judge ruled that Robert Arnold will have to give up his powers and his paycheck while he is jailed awaiting trial.

NASHVILLE, TN β€” Disgraced Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold is now both disgraced and suspended.

Davidson County Chancellor Bill Young suspended Arnold from his duties β€” and his salary β€” as Rutherford County Sheriff throughout the duration of the civil ouster suit filed against him by a dozen constituents.

Despite being locked in a Kentucky cell for violating the terms of his pre-trial release as he awaits his court date on federal fraud and corruption charges stemming from his ownership stake in jailhouse vape supplier JailCigs, Arnold was still technically the top law enforcement officer in Rutherford County and was still receiving the pay commensurate with the job.

After testimony from, among others, the sheriff of Franklin County, who said it would be impossible to do his job, even though his department is smaller than Arnold's, while in jail and from Arnold's deputy Randy Garrett, who said it is he, not Arnold, who has been handling the day-to-day running of the RCSO, Young ordered Arnold suspended until the ouster trial is complete.
