1. UofM, Shelby County receives $1.1M from Fema for 'hazard mitigation' (localmemphis.com) — Memphis and Shelby County are getting more than $1.1 million in FEMA hazard‑mitigation funds, including a new county flood warning system and a University of Memphis outreach project tied to Hurricane Helene. While the area missed out on this round of storm-damage reimbursement, the state is still awaiting a separate FEMA decision on August's severe bow-echo storm.
   

2. Man robbed in Memphis Methodist Hospital bathroom (wreg.com) — A man was robbed at gunpoint in a bathroom at Methodist Hospital on Union Avenue in Memphis, and police are now searching for the suspect seen on surveillance video. The victim says an older man in a blue mask demanded his belongings and took his cash. Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
   

3. Army National Guard Takes Disaster Simulator to Philadelphia (mychesco.com) — High school students in Memphis can expect a visit from the Army National Guard's Disasterville simulator this fall, offering hands-on virtual-reality training in wildfire, flood, and earthquake response. The mixed-reality experience doubles as a recruiting tool, with Guard soldiers on-site to explain how part-time service supports disaster response while allowing students to pursue school or civilian careers.
   

4. Grizzlies make adjustment, limit Zach Edey in first training camp action (commercialappeal.com) — Memphis Grizzlies training camp opened with two-a-day practices in Nashville, taking advantage of a healthier roster to push conditioning and their trademark fast pace. Rookie big man Zach Edey is fully cleared but being eased into full sessions, while fellow newcomer Cam Boozer is getting his first taste of official NBA practices before preseason tips off.
