Animal lovers have a chance to name tiger cubs at Memphis Zoo (kens5.com) — Memphis residents can help choose names for two new female Sumatran tiger cubs at the Memphis Zoo through an online vote open until Sept. 15. The zoo's care team has narrowed options to six meaningful names, and the winning pair will be announced at the Memphis Tigers' Sept. 19 home game, giving locals a fun way to connect with both the team and the zoo.
   

3. Wolf River Bridge repairs start Tuesday, blocking roads (wreg.com) — Drivers in the Memphis area should prepare for a long-term closure of the Wolf River Bridge on Collierville-Arlington Road starting Tuesday, forcing detours for more than a year. TDOT accelerated the $16.8 million project after frequent inspections raised safety concerns, with traffic expected to resume by October next year and full repairs finishing in spring 2028.
   

4. Here's where local foodies can find new favorites this Black Dining Week: (actionnews5.com) — Memphis diners can explore 18 Black-owned restaurants this week during the newly rebranded "Taste of Memphis: Black Dining Week," running September 6–12. With new leadership and spots like Memphis Toast in Smokey City already packed, organizers hope residents will venture beyond their usual neighborhoods and support local eateries and planned community expansions.
   

5. CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Group of suspects fire at a home on Labor Day, wounding 2 sleeping teens (actionnews5.com subscription) — Two teenagers were wounded by gunfire while sleeping in their bedrooms in a Memphis home on Keystone Drive early Labor Day morning, and police say the investigation is ongoing. Security video shows multiple gunmen firing at the house, leaving at least 20 bullet holes and badly damaging the boys' rooms. The family now plans to move from what they considered a peaceful neighborhood.
