Bringing Confidence to Nashville Schools

Have you met us, Characters of Character NFP? We are here in Tennessee and making a difference in the life of a child! Our character above is Self-Esteem Elephant who teaches and reinforces self-esteem and confidence in our children and youth.

Did you know we just donated 40 boxes to PENCIL from a donation from Coca-Cola? We did! We hope that these activity boxes will empower some children with these positive affirmation activities to build their confidence, their self-esteem and help them become a role model to their peers and the community.

Last year we donated to the Hendersonville Library and we were at the Hendersonville Market with Self-Esteem Elephant! We passed out water bottles with a sticker of Self-Esteem Elephant that said, "I Like ME" to anyone who wanted one. When we got home we had an email from a parent who said that her daughter wouldn't throw out her empty water bottle, she loved it! It opened up the conversation of what she likes about who she is, and why? This mom is also a Scout leader and we shared with her more stickers and materials to reinforce with her Girl Scout Troop these 3 powerful words, " I Like ME"

We also visited a few Girl Scout Troops with this message, "I Like ME". First, we talked about the words as I asked the Troop as a whole, "What do you like about yourself" and as you might imagine, nothing. Until, I began to point out individuals, curly hair, beautiful smile, fun shirt, great laugh, etc. Then they began to open up with what they liked about who they are or what they are good at. I wrote them all down on large graph paper with their name next to it for the Troop Leaders to continue with activities from this visit. They were so impressed with their girls and this simple activity to bring out their confidence and self-esteem.

Of course we painted the character, Self-Esteem Elephant on a canvas with a few groups and with the others we painted a canvas that says: 'I LIKE ME' as a visual reminder for the girls to take home and display and think about each day, what do I like about who I am, and what would I change?
