Community Helping Community

Community is what it's all about. What can you do to make your community a better place? Do you volunteer for a nonprofit? Do you volunteer in your community? Do you volunteer for a school or other? Without the support of one another, life gets hard. We need to lift one another up on a daily basis, it's so easy to do!

* donate to a local pantry or shelter

There are many ways you can help out in your community. Now that the weather is getting nicer, help out an elderly neighbor or friend with yard work. Bring them groceries and ask how you can help them. Kindness is never a hard thing, but it's a thing that sometimes we forget to use in our lives.

Our organization, Characters of Character is newer to the community, relocated here a few years ago and we have not stopped trying to do what we can to make a difference. Last year we discovered a need and appreciation for Birthday stuff at the pantries. We all have them! So, with the support last year from Cream of the Crop where the community was able to drop items off at, and UNARCO who donated a lot of completed Birthday Cake Pans we brought them to Robertson County. This year DeeJa Moo is our drop off location for donations and UNARCO again is putting together these wonderful Birthday Kits for the pantries. We, Characters of Character are a small nonprofit and can't fulfill them on our own and could use your support. You can visit our Wish List for items in need still, which mostly are frosting, napkins and pans. In case you didn't know, a can of Sprite is used instead of the eggs and oil and I made a cake! Trust me, it was delicious!!!

We are picking donations at DeJa Moo on Saturday if you want to drop them off there. All these items are for the community of Robertson County. But, this is a great service project for our youth or other organizations who don't mind taking the time to put one together. I have a friend in Minnesota who did this project for her son who needed volunteer hours. They collected and put together 126 Birthday Cake Kits for surrounding communities where they live! It's the kindness that goes such a long way and it's kindness that the world could use more of.

How can you support your community? What kindness will you spread through out the day, the week, the month and the year? Talk about kindness with your work, your co-workers and your family and discover how they would love to become involved in kindness in the community!
