Gas Flowing Again Through Colonial Pipeline; Nashville Urged to Hang in There

While gasoline is flowing through a temporary bypass line, it will still take a bit of time for supplies to return to normal.

HELENA, AL — Colonial Pipeline said fuel is flowing once again, but it will still take a few days for downstream markets to be back at full supply.

With testing complete on the temporary bypass of a leaking section of pipe in rural Alabama, Colonial began sending fuel through "Line 1," which supplies as much as 40 percent of the fuel used in the eastern United States. After the leak was discovered Sept. 9, prices spiked across the Southeast and stations throughout the region ran out of gas as panicky motorists rushed to fill-up, even as governors, including Tennessee's, declared states of emergency to help fend off supply crunches.

Eventually, things should settle back down at the pump, but it may take a few days before supplies return to normal, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
