It Takes Character to Have Good Character

Teaching good behavior is an important trait, reinforcement is truly great! How about a certificate to display, no matter if good behavior is seen at school, at home or even play! Heck, give one to a co-worker and make their day!

Did you know that Characters of Character NFP not only donates Superhero Character building activity boxes to Children's Hospitals, the YMCA, classrooms and Fort Campbell, but, they also have published books with all nine of these important character traits to teach our children and youth what good character is? It's true! Our Come Learn With Me book series is for ages 0-5 and introduces Behavior Bear and helps you talk about what good behavior is with your children or students. There is another book for ages 5-10 titles, Let's Behave starring Behavior Bear. Then, for the educator or parent looking for resources on good behavior with activities, worksheets, engaging bulletin boards and such, there is a Resource Book and a Bulletin Board and Poster book, too! We even have activity books to engage and empower your children in these vital core values! There are tee shirts, our newsletter offers a FREEBEE Friday activity to do with your children and we look forward to meeting you! Friendship Frog even has a song and video and we are working on more! We hope you'll introduce them to your classroom or family and let us know what you think. The book doesn't stop there! We have many ways you can introduce and talk about character to your children and students, it's not that hard to do. Teaching a class at a library a few years ago with Manners Monkey I received an email from a mom who had thanked me for coming out that evening to talk about manners with the children. On their drive home her daughter wanted to learn more polite words in a different language. Talk about a teachable moment! During the classes I talk about the trait and introduce the character. We have a brief discussion what the trait means and then we paint the character on canvas! The children take it home as their visual reminder.

Last summer I created our Travel Pals. You simply print out the character and take it with you where you travel, to the park, to a friends home, in the community, etc. to remind your children to be of good character. An easy way to build literacy skills, communication skills, fine motor skills and keep those Characters of Character in daily view, daily conversations and continue to build that firm foundation! It has always amazed me the amount of money and time that so many schools invest in programming to bring character to their classrooms. A few books that will engage, empower and easily be implemented into daily activities doesn't get much better, more cost efficient and internalized by our children and youth than these guys........Earned a National Promising Practice Award after being piloted in an elementary school in Illinois. Mind you that there were only two school in Illinois to receive this high honor and the Characters of Character are one of them. Since then we have evolved, but our messages remain the same.
