Kempton of Hermitage Activities Director Made Resident’s Dream Come True with Surprise Andrea Bocelli Concert

Kempton of Hermitage Activities Director Made Resident's Dream Come True with Surprise Andrea Bocelli Concert Tickets

A lighthearted comment at a resident advisory council meeting turned into an unforgettable evening for one Kempton of Hermitage assisted living retirement community resident, thanks to the determination and heart of Activities Director Rachel Thomas.

During a November meeting, residents shared ideas about places they would love to visit and experiences they hoped to have. That was when 91-year-old Barbara Pendley spoke up.

“Barbara said, ‘If anyone had a couple extra hundred dollars or so, I’d love to see Andrea Bocelli,’” Rachel recalled. “She was joking. But when I got home, I knew I had to try to make it happen.”

Barbara was well known throughout the community for her warmth and involvement. Rachel described her as a wonderful pillar of the community and an ambassador who truly deserved to experience her dream.

That evening, Rachel turned to social media and posted on Facebook to see if any friends had connections at Bridgestone Arena, where Andrea Bocelli was set to perform on February 23.

The response was immediate and overwhelming. People reached out offering to connect her with their own contacts.

Soon after, a retired high school teacher of Rachel’s shared incredible news. Her daughter, who worked in marketing at Bridgestone Arena, secured two concert tickets and a parking pass.

With the help of the Kempton team and Barbara’s daughter, Rachel planned a surprise presentation. When Barbara received the tickets, there was not a dry eye in the room.

The concert itself was a wonderful night for Barbara and her daughter. It was a late evening, but the music and the experience made every moment worthwhile. Later, Barbara’s daughter reported that Barbara had a big smile on her face the entire evening.

“Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think something like this would happen,” Barbara said.

For the team at Kempton of Hermitage, the experience meant far more than attending a concert. It reflected what happens when someone truly listens and takes action to turn a simple wish into a lasting memory.
