Learning our 5 Senses

This is a lovely time of the year to reinforce and teach our children that they have 5 Senses. I know some adults who have no sense, pun intended! Just kidding. While the weather is getting nicer outdoors and we begin to transition to the beauty that the Spring offers, I thought why not do some outdoors/indoors activities with your children to teach and reinforce their 5 senses.

1. Go out into your own yard, lay on a blanket and listen to nature. What do you hear? Take a walk in the park and do the same. Your child will tune into sounds from different environments and keep a good ear out for more!

2. Take a walk inside, outside, at the park, in the daytime in the dark. What do you see? Your child will tune into the different sights and at different times or angles how they will look different at times.

3. Take a walk after the rain or in a field of flowers. What do you smell? After you make bake, after you rake leaves, during special occasions or holidays the smells are different. What do you smell?

4. Have your child close their eyes and offer them different foods to taste. You might surprise them! If they see their veggies on their plate and probably snuffle at you, try to trick them, they may like them! What do you taste?

5. Offer different textures or do the same and ask your child to touch them. For example, a cotton ball, it feels different when it is dry than when it is wet. An orange feels different with it's peel on that after it's peeled.
