The young man killed in Friday night’s single-vehicle crash at the I-24 West/I-40 East interchange is identified as D’Airrius Gilmore, 19, of Nashville.

The preliminary investigation shows that Gilmore was driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 west on I-24 when he traveled into the center median at 8:30 p.m. and struck a light pole. Gilmore, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. According to a witness, Gilmore was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
