Nashville Predator P.K. Subban To Receive Canadian Honor

Predators' defenseman P.K. Subban will be honored by Canada for his charitable contributions ahead of his return to Montreal Thursday.

NASHVILLE, TN — Nashville Predators defenseman P.K. Subban will make his return to Montreal Thursday, as the Preds take on the Canadiens, the team from which he was traded in a surprise blockbuster swap last summer, but before he does, he'll be lauded by his home country.

Canada's Governor-General David Johnston will present Subban with the Meritorious Service Cross in the atrium — named for Subban — at Montreal's Children's Hospital Wednesday morning. Subban is being honored for his pledge to raise $10 million for the hospital through his foundation. The money raised goes to a fund which offers assistance to families with financial struggles as a result of their children's illness.

"His generous gift stands as an example of how professional athletes can positively change lives in their communities," a news release from the governor-general's office reads.

Subban, who came to Nashville in a trade that sent former Preds captain Shea Weber to the Habs, is continuing his charitable work in the Music City. During the Christmas season, he took a group of children with sickle-cell anemia on a shopping spree and sleigh ride.
