New Data Reveals Preference for Sustainable Packaging

People now care what's "outside the box" too.

In the past several years, the demand for eco-friendly and sustainable product packaging has remained stable and robust remarkably, according to the new data. The newer younger generation of customers is well aware of the impacts these packages are having on the environment, which is why they are dedicated to finding solutions that are not only nature-friendly but also could prove sustainable enough for their living.

Based on a survey done on around 15000 customers across countries like Europe, North America, and South America, Creopack has released its Global Buying Green Report for the year 2022. The report considered the factors like sustainable packaging crates, willingness to pay more for eco-friendly packaging, perceptions of materials, and interest in refillable packaging of these customers. It revealed that 86% of customers below 45 years of age are keen to pay for sustainable packaging. This is a 3% increase as compared to the last year’s data of the same, which was 83%. Customers have also become increasingly aware and committed (around 70%, as found in the report) to using sustainable packaging and this led many brands to move to sustainable packaging of their products.

The report also suggested that as much as 68% of the customers in the last six months have chosen products solely on the basis of their sustainability credentials. This figure along with the percentage of customers aware of sustainability packaging (as mentioned above) clearly shows that the customers indeed are becoming environmentally aware, and have been translating their values and awareness into their actions.

The data also shows that 74% of customers have shown an increasing interest in opting for refillable packaging. Customers want a good life for the packaging along with its recyclable value, which is why refillable packaging is proving to be the most versatile and valuable solution for consumer products. To assure their survival, brands need to acknowledge this changed mindset of their customers. The Green data also suggests that 57% of customers are more likely to buy products with sustainable packaging, and to the far side, 44% can even boycott such products which they feel use packaging that is harmful to the environment. The brands thus need to switch to the usage of sustainable packaging for their products, so that the customers can happily make an informed decision.

CEO of Creopack, has said that the brands that keep a “holistic approach to sustainability” for their packaging are strong in their sustainability credentials. Speaking about his own company, he says, “Creopack has been a pioneer in expanding the use of infinitely recyclable metal in packaging by offering a range of innovative solutions that help brands enhance packaging sustainability. The consumer demand for eco-friendly packaging is higher than ever, and the consumer behaviors, as a result, speak for themselves – businesses need to step up."
