Spring in Tennessee brings longer days, warmer weather and more time outdoors. It’s a season many of us look forward to. But after our city just worked through an unprecedented ice storm, we’re reminded how quickly conditions can change and why preparation matters.

In Middle Tennessee, tornado season typically peaks in March, April and May. Severe weather can move in fast and leave lasting impacts, from power outages and fallen trees to roof damage and flooding. While we can’t control the weather, we can take smart, practical steps to be ready.

A few simple ways to prepare:

  • Know your safest place during severe weather, especially during tornado warnings.
  • Secure outdoor items and trim weak or overhanging tree branches.
  • Keep emergency essentials on hand, including flashlights, batteries, medications and important documents.

From an insurance standpoint, spring is also the right time to review your coverage before you need it. Make sure your business, home and auto policies reflect current replacement costs, understand your deductibles and document your belongings with photos or videos. If you own or rent valuable items, confirm they’re properly covered.

After storms, we often see damage that isn’t immediately obvious such as leaks, water intrusion or vehicle issues that appear days later. Having the right coverage and a clear understanding of your policy can make recovery far less stressful.
