Providing Superhero Character Building Activity Boxes

Have you met the Characters of Character? This 501(c)(3) nonprofit's mission is to provide a firm foundation for children to establish strong civic values. In 2007 Joni Downey, the creator earned them a National Promising Practice Award through Character Education Partnership in Washiington D.C. Since then, Joni has brought all nine of these characters to life in costume, impacted thousands of children and youth in their important messages. A huge accomplishment is our Superhero character building boxes which we designed with hospitals in mind. Since 2021, Characters of Character has donated 1,364 of these to Children's Hospitals! They are even being requested, true story!

As you might imagine when a child is in the hospital or perhaps at the Emergency Room, they are frightened and scared. We have had so many comments from the staff who are so appreciative of these because they get to gift the child one of these and it brings the child so much happiness! They immediately bring curiosity to the child who can open the box and engage in activities bringing them a sense of calm.

With so much going on, Characters of Character has chosen to have a Monthly Focus. This will highlight one location of a hospital that we are partnered with and have a lovely relationship. These children's hospitals hope to be on the receiving end and we work tirelessly trying to raise funds so that we can continue to get these into the hands of our children who are at the hospital. This month, December, our Monthly Focus is the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt which we began donating to in late 2021. Your donation goes directly to this project and as little as $5.00 makes a huge difference. Our goal (if we go over is even better) is to donate at least 20 to the Monthly Focus children's hospital location. C'mon Nashville, help us reach our goal and make a difference in the life of a child, please, and thank you. Yes, we have all our locations mapped out already for 2024 and with your support, we can finish off the year with a joyful heart!
