Tax-Free Weekend In Tennessee Stores Begins Friday
With the annual holiday, the state helps out back-to-school shoppers and bargain hunters.

NASHVILLE, TN — Schools in Tennessee will open their doors in the coming weeks for the new academic year, and parents are starting to hunt for bargains in clothes, school supplies and computers for their kids.
The state of Tennessee is pitching in with its annual sales tax holiday, which begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Stores will waive the state's 7 percent sales tax on a variety of items. For example, the tax holiday will cover apparel that costs $100 or less per item, including shirts, pants, jackets, socks, shoes and dresses, says the Tennessee Department of Revenue.

The tax holiday also covers school supplies with a purchase price of $100 or less per item, such as binders, books, backpacks, paper, pens, pencils and rulers.
