Teaching Perseverance

Well, how spiffy does Do'er Duck look while dancing into the New Year?! Do'er Duck is one of the nine Characters of Character and teaches our children and youth to persevere, Never Give Up and try, just one more time. We recently visited the Fort Campbell Army Base to talk with a group of students about this trait, above is a fun graphic using chatgpt and below is the original.

My advice, always be yourself, original and authentic, but, never try to have some fun, too! When we have kids, there is no instruction manual, no 'How to' we go by what we know, what we've been taught and what we think is best for them. It's what parents do. One thing I hope that you do today and all year long is to communicate with your children. Have an open door for them to walk through feeling safe and comfortable to share what they are thinking, feeling or wanting to learn more about. As busy and hectic as life can be, it's important to stop and listen. Not only is this impactful, it will build trust and a bond between you and your child. I really love the quote by Benjamin Franklin:

TELL me and I forget, TEACH me and I remember, INVOLVE me and I learn. Think about that!
