Transactions Delayed After First Tennessee Bank Hardware Failure

First Tennessee says transaction should all post some time Wednesday after a computer failure over the weekend.

MEMPHIS, TN — A weekend computer snafu is delaying transactions for some First Tennessee Bank customers.

Over the weekend, the Memphis-based bank suffered a failure of a computer system, which, it stressed, was not due to a cyberattack. While technicians have everything up and running, there has been a delay in transactions posting.

“It’s just like if your computer hardware fails at home, the computer has to recover all of the data,” bank spokesperson Kim Cherry told WATE. “We’ve already started to post transactions and we expect all deposits to be done by the end of the day.”

Bank branches stayed open late Tuesday to help people through the troubles and the company says everything should be back to normal by close-of-business Wednesday.

Customers will not be charged for any fees incurred as a result of the computer malfunction, such as overdrafts that would not have otherwise occurred.
