Rotary turns bottle caps into benches (themountainpress.com) — Sevierville Sunrise Rotary members are helping turn plastic bottle caps and lids into durable benches, and they're eyeing a similar project for the Sevierville Boys & Girls Club playground. By collecting and sorting hundreds of pounds of plastic for an Indiana recycler, local volunteers could soon add more benches to Sevier County recreation areas while keeping waste out of landfills.

2. Newport man charged with DUI after striking SPD cruiser (themountainpress.com) — A Sevierville Police SUV blocking traffic for a relay on Veterans Parkway was sideswiped early Sunday by a Newport driver now charged with DUI and other offenses. No one was hurt, but deputies say his license was suspended, he lacked insurance, and his blood-alcohol level tested at more than twice the legal limit before he bonded out of Sevier County Jail.

Arrests Sept. 25-28 (themountainpress.com) — Recent Sevier County Jail intake reports show several Sevierville residents charged with offenses ranging from shoplifting and trespassing to domestic assault and alcohol-related violations. Each listing notes the person's hometown, charges, and bond status, giving residents a clear snapshot of local law enforcement activity between Sept. 25 and 28.

Springfield girls golf wins first region championship in school history (mainstreetmediatn.com) — The girls state golf tournament is coming to The Sevierville Golf Club on Oct. 5-6, bringing Springfield's first-ever region champion team and several standout players from across Region 5-A. Local residents can expect visiting teams, families, and fans in town as these high school golfers compete for state titles on Sevierville's home course.
