Texas city enters Stage 1 drought plan, asks residents to water only at night, 3 days a week (thecooldown.com) — Amarillo officials have activated Stage One of the city's drought plan and are asking you to water lawns only three nights a week between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. With reservoir levels slipping near 54% after weeks of triple‑digit heat, residents and businesses are urged to fix leaks, cut back irrigation, and conserve now to avoid mandatory restrictions and fines. 
2. Amarillo brings back popular Discover! event with dino power (amarillo.com) — Amarillo families just packed John Stiff Memorial Park for the revived Discover! 5.0 festival, complete with science demos, kids' activities, and a pops concert by the Amarillo Symphony. The Don Harrington Discovery Center now continues its 50th‑anniversary "Year of the Dino," but will close Sept. 8–18 to install its final dinosaur exhibit, so plan your visit around that downtime.
3. Amarillo police cut Flock camera data retention to 7 days after alleged misuse case (abc7amarillo.com) — Amarillo police are cutting Flock camera data retention from 30 days to just 7 and tightening audits after a former officer was accused of misusing the system to track a man. During a tense Amarillo City Council meeting, residents questioned surveillance practices while city leaders promised new safeguards, limited off-duty access to live body-cam views, and possible independent oversight.
4. Meet Hank: Amarillo's blood donor dog (myhighplains.com) — In Amarillo, a three-year-old Great Dane named Hank quietly helps save other dogs' lives as a blood donor for Swann Animal Clinic, stepping in during emergencies when pets need transfusions. His owner, a clinic team lead, hopes Hank's example encourages other local dog owners to ask their veterinarians about donor programs that could give more pets a second chance.
5. Soddies' Eighth-Inning Surge Sparks Second Straight Comeback Win Over Missions (newschannel10.com) — Amarillo baseball fans saw a thrilling finish as the Sod Poodles erupted for five runs in the eighth inning to beat the San Antonio Missions 6–2 at home.
